Respraying fairing panels
Hi, has anybody any experience of respraying lower fairing panels using rattle cans? Prep, primer and paint. Wondering how good a finish i can expect.

Re: Respraying fairing panels
Yes, I had blue ones sprayed sonic silver
My bloke did quite a good job on them. If you're going to do them with rattle cans then preparation, preparation & preparation is the key to a good result. But my bloke only charged about £120, so hardly worth the bother & time and effort to do it with rattle cans. Paints expensive Only downside is any stone chips show the original panel colour below

Re: Respraying fairing panels
I never thought about that with stone chips. Companies are closed now so i haven't got any replies back for quotes.
Just trying to figure out which route i wanna take... Last edited by Urbanfireblade; 23-12-11 at 06:49 PM. |

Re: Respraying fairing panels
At least black will cover anything and as they are brand new they should just need a light sanding to key the new paint.
Plenty of thin coats is the key to a good finish, but I'm no expert at paint, quite the opposite

Re: Respraying fairing panels
I sprayed mine myself with paint matched at the local paint mixing place, I used clear coat from The Range (duplicolor) as it was about 3 times cheaper a can.
Came out alright, but obviously not as good as a professional, but then cost me about £30,but im happy enough, depends on how good you can spray with cans and what youd be happy with what colour are you doing, flat colours are a doddle, pearls are a bit more of a pig. Re: Respraying fairing panels
Well my bike is a '61 plate Sv650s in shiny black-think its called Pearl Nebular Black? as it has a blue sparkle when the sun shines but i'm happy to have gloss black fairing lowers as thats way easier. To buy the Pearl nebular black paint from Rs motorbike paint is coming out at about £63 including p+p, going for gloss black i'd estimate about half of that, tho i already have the laquer so even less.

Re: Respraying fairing panels
Second that about the prep work. My lowers were off EBay for 40 quid and in a crap state. Qbond and many, many happy hours with wet and dry....
Paint from RS Paint for an exact match £120 quid. Pro paint job, 2 layers of primer, 2 of colour and 2 of lacquer. I had a seat cowl sprayed as well, £150 the lot but she looks the DBs |
