How to clean oil off driveway?
Okies, have had a dead MX5 in my carport for a little while. Knowing it's tendency to lose a bit of oil (even before it dropped a rod) I thought I'd be sensible and caring, and pop a cat litter tray under the engine to catch drips.
Well, I kinda knew that over the last couple of months the entire sump had now drained into the tray. And it was only today shifting bins around that I noticed that something (floods? critters?) have knocked it around enough to spill half the contents all over my drive, and annoyingly, seeped over next doors too. So I kinda need to clean up sharpish. What to use? Sand & shovel should get the bulk up, but what about the ingrained stuff (it's not a new drive and has many cracks and crevices)? Does coca-cola really work? Any off the shelf stuff you can recommend? Or just a ton of fairy liquid and some heavy duty scrubbing? |

Halfords sells a spray that eats oil spills, it still leaves a shadow but not much. Gunk or similiar might do the trick too.

Re: How to clean oil off driveway?
I used to chuck kitty litter down on the oil spills in my driveway, leave it for a couple of days and sweep it up. Worked a treat.

Re: How to clean oil off driveway?
don't know if this helps but it'll give you a ballpark figure for hiring a pressure washer for the day.

Re: How to clean oil off driveway?
Gunk works well, although make sure you do the whole drive otherwise you will have a clean patch.
If you have a big 5l bottle of muc-off you can throw some of that around and get rid of most of it too. Use a pressure washer to clean it off after and its gone. Dan |
