Default 20,000 Miles

The old crate turned over 20k today, and what better place to do it than the "Bilsdale TT" between Stokesley and Helmsley.
She had about 19.2k showing when I bought her and looked decidedly mankier than she does now. I need to do something about the exhaust pipes though.

What do they look like polished? And are they easy to do? Any photo's please?

I bought the bike to use as something to thrash around on a track-day at Snetterton. Too slow down the main straights really, but I was enjoying it until the fork seal went, which sprayed what felt like 5ltrs of oil all over the place.
I'd had it serviced with V/C's done, new C&S, new battery and PR3's before Snetterton. Since then I've bought some re-con forks on this forum, fitted them and spent ages cleaning the bike.

It's a bit lacking in charisma compared to the red bike but, overall, I quite like it.

Ask Dizzyblonde, she's the Uber Frau of the polished downpipe Police

The front looks great polished, and doesn't take much to get it looking nice. Its stainless steel.

OK, its not fast on the straights, but with set up suspension it can keep up and out do a lot of bigger bikes

Hiya!

Looks like your pipes are coming up nice! Whats the stuff in the bottle you are using to clean them up with? My SV's got nearly 32K on the clock and to say the pipes are looking a little tired is an understatement

How long did it take you to get to that shine?

Thanks

Hello Dan, to polish that bit (about 200mm of the pipe) took around 10 mins. The abrasive strip was scrounged from a plumber. The polishing strip is a www.zodiac.nl product, but it's just canvas tape, impregnated with what smells like ordinary metal polish.

Spot on ta. Ive got some stuff on the way and i reckon i'll have the pipes off this weekend and see how it goes =)

Just out of interest, once you've cleaned them up to a nice shine, would you reccomend spraying them with a clear, very high temp to maintain the shine, or just leave them as is?

Thanks

Just keep on top of them, once you've done the hard work, it doesn't take long to get them back to a good shine

Fair enough

Gives me another excuse to get out of the house when her indoors gets irritating

The whole bike has seen better days, but bit by bit, its starting to look better!
