Default Pointy 650 - real world fuel capacity?

According to the user manual the fuel tank is 17.0L. What I was wondering is what is the most that anyone has ever managed to fit in, or get out of the tank. For example last time I filled it took 16.8L, so I know it takes at least that much. But I don't know if it was right on the point of running dry, whether there really was 200ml that could still have been used, or indeed whether I am over filling the tank compared to the manufacturer's expectation.

Cheers, Tony S

I usually fill up within 10 miles or so of the fuel light starting to flash, and if I absolutely brim the tank right to the filler neck I can get maybe 12.5 litres in (K6 S).

Did you have a solid fuel light when you squeezed 16.8 litres in?

I once got in just over 17 litres. I think I was moments from pushing though.

Light had been solid for around 17 miles before I filled up that time, maybe a little more. To be honest I left it a bit later than usual that time. I normally get four days between fills and only take just over or under 16L. This time I had a bit of extra mileage from test runs after doing the brakes, plus some more starts and stops so a bit more miles ridden and a bit of extra fuel used.

I guess the only way to be sure would be to run out, then push the bike to a petrol station and see how much it takes. I'm not that dedicated.

Having pushed to a petrol station twice. It's not much fun.
Unfortunately I didn't notice how much juice it took.

Amen to that. I've only had to do it with my old Suzi GT380, but it was a mile and mostly uphill. No fun at all with all the gear on

Last time was in the middle of the heat wave we had this year. I too had to push for about a mile to the station, uphill in the blazing sun. I think I sweated more than 17 litres due to all my gear. What really ****ed me off was that once full it just refused to start. So a lot of swearing and another mile or so till I found a hill big enough to try bump starting it, something I'd never tried before. Thankfully it worked, as I was 8 miles from home and really not happy about the thought of pushing it that far.
I tend to wuss out now and fill up shortly after the light comes on.

I think I must be old. I still use the old school technique of zero-ing the trip when I fill up and go looking for fuel around the 130-140 mile marker. Learnt back in the day, before many bikes had a fuel gauge/light.

(I have been saved by a reserve tap on a number of occasions, though, so not a perfect technique.)

I do that but have recently still had the light flashing at 160 miles. Usually starts flashing around 135 and I normally fill up well before 150 just to be safe.

I'm pushing mine at 140. Anything past 135 and I'm risking it. But yes I too reset the clock every time I fill up.
