Default 650S v 1000S

Ok, thinking of selling my Y plate K2 650S and purchasing an 06 K6 1000S. I will post my bike up on the for sale section later tonight with lots of pics and the work done. If anyone is interested let me know

Has anyone changed from the 650 to the 1000 and can tell me what the difference is like? I know it has almost twice as much power as the 650 but in terms of size and weight is it much different? Wiki says the frame is slightly larger but all the plastics and fairings are the same. Just after some real world thoughts. I've been looking at alot of other bikes but the SV seems to do it for me. Love the sound of a V-Twin that's one of the reasons I bought my 650 but I'm now after something a little bit more powerful. At first I loved the looks of the curvy but I'm starting to change more to the pointy more because of the fact I've owned about 8 Peugeot Speedfight 2 scooters in my youth and always loved the styling of those, and the pointy SV is almost bang on with the looks of the speedy. I'll be adding all the boxes to the the new pointy and making it more of a tourer with the risers fitted and I think for me it will make the ideal bike.

Thoughts please!

Ryan

Only ridden a thousand once, good bike but it's no where near as good as the 650. Just my opinion I didn't like it, so I bought a gixer 600 instead.

Hard to put it into words, but I just felt the extra weight and power kinda lost what made the 650 great... That's just me though, give it a try you might love it.

I think he's almost spot on, pointies are ugly, long live curvies

I went from curvy to sv1000 . It is a tad heavier and subjectively less flickable. More battleship than speed boat. It has a steering damper as standard. Engine pulled and pulled and noticeably thirstier on my commute than the 650.

I tried a pointy 650 and couldn't believe how light and nimble it was. Personally the build quality seems to have improved over the years or maybe the bolts have less time to seize

Over the years I have had the privilege to own, SV1000, DL1000, DL650 and latterly the SV650. I found that the 650 variants were for me anyway just "nicer" motorcycles. I suppose the way I would sum it up is with the 1000's you get more of what you think you need but that you actually don't and the price you pay is a motorcycle that is just not as nice to ride on a daily basis.

Hi, after driving a 4.2 V8 then I guess things can't get any worse! My daily commute is about 3 miles a day, times that by 5 for the working week =15 miles, + about 50 miles at the weekend tootling around and going to see the parents so say about 70 a week to round it up its costing me about £40 quid a week on fuel! But i guess thats what you pay to run a big heavy thirsty car. I've only filled up the SV once, only done 70 miles on it so far but havnt been using it much for commuting as its been too loud. I've just got a db killer delivered and its bearable now so as from next week i will start using it full time. Being a bit heavier and less chuckable i suppose is right up my street as i want it to be more of a tourer than a sports bike. Anyway looking to sell my bike and downsize car so a nice newish (ok 10 years old like) 1000cc SV will do me well. That's what I hope anyway.

Ryan

Redmist just got rid of an SV1000 and got a SV650 here-------------

Must admit one of the reasons I bought an AL7 last year was the great fuel consumption, also handles really well.

I can understand the need of a 1000 if you regularly carry a pillion passenger.

I shall try to be as brief and concise as possible. In comparison the 1,000's felt, Lardy and Lumpy.
