I can try a few different battery holders of mine. Maybe the XD5, it's older.
I'll keep playing with it. It wants to work and I'm sure I'll get it going eventually.

Saw a listing for an XD5 and it was buy it now £199. Nice kit but proper expensive.

That's bonkers. Mine was less than £30 just under a year ago.
I think people have picked up on the fact there's a resurgence in film and are putting up prices or setting a crazy price without really knowing what they are selling.
XDs are nice though and have a lovely smooth, quiet Seiko metal shutter. If you see one at the boot sales, snap it up.

Is the meter an add-on? Looks like some of the early Pentax SLRs without meters, you could get one that sat on the top

Yep or an add-on meter that sits on top of it. Some old SLRs have the option of a waist-level finder instead of pentaprism.

Not touched the Perkeo for a while, this evening I was driving around with a pool table and a football table in the back of my truck. I should get back to it tomorrow; need to figure out why the shutter ring isn't moving easily, it's all fine otherwise. It might even work as is, if it moves quickly past the difficult point then it may not hang up, but I'd rather it didn't have any problems to try to work around.

I've had a whole bunch of long messages through Flickr from a guy who I think is in Barcelona, he's go a Perkeo II with Compur Rapid shutter and he's trying to overhaul it, I think he may have more screwdrivers than nous though.
