need help planning a route........
Now i know i should post this in a specific region however seeing as it will be covering most of the country i figured one big thread would do.
Now i want to get from mine (Hampshire) all the way to Scotland, See map. Preferably i want the ride up there to be as much fun and with as few straights bits of motorway as possible, I tried using google to give me a route without the use of motorways but it used equally as boring A roads. Oh and if possible id love to manage it in two days? Any tips would be appreciated! Cheers, Ash. |

If you tell me where you are crossing the border, how far into scotland you plan to come and how many miles you find reasonable i'm sure i can come up with a couple of options for that leg.

Re: need help planning a route........
see i was going to ask the best time to go weather wise, it might simply be a case of oh the forecast is good for next 5 days so ill head off, not got much tying me down at the moment .
So yeah when does the best of the weather begin? |

Have a safe and fun trip. Also in the highlands fill up with fuel as I imagine it can be hard to find

personal choice but i think i'd motorway it up in the least amount of time possible, then spend the extra time hooning around the chosen destination. I'd get far too lost trying to backroad it across vast distances.

It is tempting, but getting to Wales via the motorway was enough of a drag and it ate away at the centre of my tyre. Maybe 50/50 with some more fun A roads chucked in? i dont know!!

Re: need help planning a route........
2 days for hampshire to Callander, correct?
how long for your loop of scotland?? where are you planning to stay overnight? etc 2 days return trip home?? Just asking as you are missing some of the best roads in scotland, literally going right past them, so some slight alteration would improve the loop no end, obviously you'll need to strike a balance between time, money and the roads / places you definately want to see. example A lot more miles and time but this encompasses, the duked pass, the military road, The Wibbly wobbly, The rest and be thankful, the Kinlochleven loop, Loch eil (bypassing the A82 which is horrible dbl white line hell) and the Bealach Na Ba to applecross. |
