Default What makes a good TV

Going shopping a for a new telly, and I know nothing about flatscreens. Can anyone give me an idea of what makes a good flatscreen, what technolies are best etc. It will probably be around the 36" size, maybe a bit smaller, but not any bigger. Any advice welcomed!

Had a look at the Which website, but other than the general theme of LCD's are a better bet for the size of TV i'm looking at, I don't have a clue.

Wait a few months as the backlit led technology is coming on and seems to be the way to go.
Picture quality of the ones we have been looking at are far better than anything else out there.
The cost is high at the moment but then so were lcd when they first came out too.

We are going out shortly to look for a led tv, i love them, cheaper to run, thinner, picture seems great.
I suspect plasma's and lcd will be phased out for led technology, more environmentally friendly as well.

Mrs specialone is paying as well out of her pay increase .

Thats most of the reasons were getting one.

That and the fact that they are supposed to last longer than plasma and lcd too.

From whats friends have told me about their own experiences, plasmas seem to go before lcd.
I would buy lcd if i had to, not plasma.

So is any LED better than any LCD? We were looking to buy before the VAT increase.

P.S. were not Tech junkies, and don't watch that much TV. Our exisiting TV is a 10 year old 22" CRT, so anything will likely be an improvement!

Ive heard that the plasma dies quicker than the lcd too.

Jenn is "in talks" with a supplier about a samsung series 7000.
If anyone can get something cheaper, Jenn will lol

I asked why we needed a 55" TV but she has a remodel of the living room in mind (deep joy).

You would think, but crts have a very good picture, especially when using standard definition which most channels are.

I have only a small lounge, 46" is probably the largest we could go for, there are two types i believe, 6000 and 7000 series, with the 7000 being the more expensive.
Dont know much about the difference tbh, will have to read up.
Picture looked the same in the shop between the two.

Edit. I have a sony normal type telly, 100 hz flat screen, 32", nout wrong with it, had it 5 years nearly, havent found anything yet that matches picture quality for the same size.

I have an LG 42LH5000 being delivered on Weds.

You could get the 37" model.

Most interesting features are 4xHDMI, 2xSCART, PC and Composite connectors, also a USB port that it can play DivX files off of.
