Default I am having doubts

I know this is awfully bad form, but I am having serious doubts as whether I want to ride the route of the ride out. Don't get me wrong I have absolutely no problems socialising with you guys. It is just the route.

Would you guys mind, if I was to go my own merry way on the Saturday.

There are some fantastic roads that demand to be ridden and I have to be honest in that I don't find the idea of an organised bimble in the country appealing.

Now I am not trying to organise any dissent. If (Note the use of the If) I go my own merry way, it will be on my own. One revolting individual is enough

my other half thought it a bit tame, but I pointed out it was thought of with everyone in mind of all abilities. However there are some seriously brilliant roads elsewhere in the area.

Ummmm... It might be I can't decide.

But then you have the whole rest of the year to ride alone, just once a year do we meet to do this. And not forgetting that I and three others spent our time and money and effort, (enjoyable as it was), coming from London to work this out, it might be considered ungrateful not to join in .

Guys,

Whilst personally I would have gone for a route that makes the best use of the roads we have available in the area. N/S peeps know what I mean. I have two personal issues.

1) I am in my own backyard. I feel from previous posts that there is a discipline as to how I will be expected to ride and with the collective, leaders, markers etc. Whereas I would prefer to simply ride at my own pace and meet up at set points.

2) this is my major issue. The use of the A65. I hate it. Too much double white line, tractors, trucks, queues, tourists, plods.

The overall route chosen is only a couple of hours out. We have a day. I am not a fast rider, but I do enjoy spirited riding. I am not sure that I would accept the discipline of riding with a large group.

Maybe it is cabin fever, not having been out since the N/S. But I feel the need for a hoon and not a bimble. Maybe the ride up will exercise the demon

tim, i see your point, as im not to keen on ploding around the country side either, BUT as you have said, you are in your own backyard, so you can do the faster paced ride anytime, where as people coming from a long way cant.

maybe as quiff said we could do somthing on the sunday?

OK, my initial thoughts were yes, fine, if you don't want to join the group ride, and want to do your own thing whilst the main group is doing the ride, then fine, each to their own.

Then you went & said that you're in your own back yard....

On the North Wales run, I was more than happy to sit right at the back. As it happens, the group naturally split in two, with the faster riders way off in front and one of those acting as a marker for the slower group trailing a fair distance behind. I was sat at the back of the slower group (and even then, we we're hanging around that much).

The reason I was happy to run tail end charlie is entirely because I was riding roads that I can ride any day of the week, at whatever pace I choose. If was actually quite fun. I was able to hang back behind traffic & open the throttle to play catchup. At one point I even stopped for fuel, and when I stopped, I was already at the back of the group. Then I got an absolute stomp on down a good road that I know well, and caught the group up within probably 10-15miles. Quiff did say that he thought I might of fallen off though so maybe I should of said that I was stopping, but hey ho.

Also, since you're in your own back yard, I'll sit back & wait for Rictus to mention that it was put up before for people to offer routes, and no-one really did, so others from further afield had to.

However, each to their own, no-one can force anyone to do anything. If you choose to wander off, your call & I won't think any less of you. If you choose to blast out in front of the ride & wait at certain points, possibly even avoiding roads you don't like in order to ride roads you favor, then again, your call.

Personally, I ain't fussed either way TBH. One person going MIA for a while is neither here or there.
