Default London Hotel/Area Advice?

I've got to book a hotel for a conference in London next month - the conference is at a place called "Business Design Centre, 52 Upper Street, Islington

I don't know London AT ALL - I've only ever been through it on the train, and hopped on & off the tube a couple of times in the process.

I've found a hotel on LateRooms that seems Ok (Days Hotel, Hackney Road, E2 8PP). From what I can gather, it's roughly 2/3 miles away from the conference centre.

I'm there for three days - is it worth me looking for somewhere different? I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of London in the evenings whilst I'm there. Is that a reasonable place to get to & from the city centre etc?

Sorry if this is a silly question!?

Its not in a nice part of town...

Mixed reviews of it as well.

It looks ok, but you should be able to do better perhaps for that sort of money.

Try http://www.lastminute.com and http://www.tripadvisor.com/

Tripadvisor gives user submitted reviews & photos, it's very good for getting the real ideal of where you are staying.

Is there a better area nearish by (I don't mind travelling a bit on the tube/taxi etc to get to & from the conference) that I should look into?

Cheers

Angel tube is waaaaay closer to the BDC than Highbury & Islington.

Note sure what your budget is, however I stayed here last Friday Night:-

Holborn Grange

It was a part of my Birthday pressie - think it was about £100 inc brekkie for the night, cheapest deal was booking direct with the hotel.

Great location - 1 minute walk from Russell Square tube or Holborn Tube, and about 5 mins or so walk from Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Soho and Oxford Street.

Nice pool and sauna etc. - rooms are pretty big with very comfy beds:-

Also not too far from Islington - looks almost walkable :-
