Default MOT'ing a bike...How hard can it be??

Well, this happened last week. It was time to get Vernas SV MOT'd for another year. Not a problem i thought. I know where i can get it done without fail, but thats the other side of where i work, so i thought, i'll try my local businesses.

1st off Bonaza bikes in Croydon (Or whatever its called now)
No chance, fully booked up for the rest of the week. I can book it in. Ok, i thought no problem.

2nd Some place near sutton.
Oooo, we are very busy today, cant fit you in until 4pm this afternoon. Again, fair enough, i'll try somehwere else that i know.

3rd place, my local of local bike shops.
Ride round the back park up near the shed. No one in there and no bikes other than a couple of what look like race bikes. Walk round to the shop. Hi mate, can i have an MOT? Sorry mate, we are chock a block. Really i ask, the shed is empty and there arent any bikes. Well, we are busy. You really sure? Yes, i can book it in. Na, dont think so.

4th Place. Watlings in Catford. Same as above really. Empty shop, nothing happening at all, but they where to busy even to agknoledge me for the 1st 5 mins, then, ooo, we're busy today on MOT's!!

So that was that. I ended up going to Essential Rubber during work time (The best time to do MOT's) ride up, ride in, MOT pass, job done. Now, why cant all bike shops be like that?

Big up to Essentail Rubber!.

Never ever had a problem with Watlings in Catford. Used them quite a lot and always found them to be pretty good.

I use to think that until I went to Essential. People who know what there doing changeing tyres rather than a group of chavs!

Had 2 MOTs on the triple at Essential and a couple of sets of tyres, not had any issues. The nic people even sold me a couple of fuses to get the thing working for it the MOT too.

Every year I forget about mine, and book it into Dalziel's at most 18 hours before I need it done, every year I'm there when they open feeling like I'm going to black out from sleep deprivation, but they're always squeezed me in. And never failed me either, even the time the front brake switch broke on the way there.

Oh, I miss the days when I used to be able to get a ticket over the phone.

"Good Morning it is Tim, can I have an MOT for the bike", "Make/Model & Registration number please", "blah, blah blah". "OK, Pop round in 10 minutes and pick it up".

Now it is a bit more like, "Bloody computer based tests, I will enter it over lunch, pop round this afternoon for it".

I heard a good story 2 weeks ago. A member of this forum has a brother who is an MOT tester and did his own car. He actually gave himself an advisory notice about a defect. He says he did it to get the message over to the others in the garage that they cannot simply do their own without doing it properly

I don't bother with MOT's. Can't see what all the fuss is about just to get a little certificate.
