Default VTEC

I'm sure I read somewhere that the next generation 645cc V-twin in the SV would have VTEC. I'm sure it supposed to be around by now. Does anyone now about this or am I making this up.

Why have VTEC? No purpose I can think of. An answer to a question no-one asked. And on a small engine? Especially a revvy one? Adds complexity, increases service costs,

A V-Twin motor having VTEC? - it wouldn't even work.

Indeed they have.Ducati have been trying for years to develop the ultimate holy grail of vtec;electronic valves.Using an electro magnet to open and shut the valve gives infinite adjustment and less frictional power losses. They can't make it work yet though.

Suzuki had a test motor up and running last year but it was just that and, as far as I know, costs were prohibitve for a 'cheap'bike such as the SV650.

crikey... can u imagine, an sv motor reving to 16k.... still producing enuff power to pull power wheelies.....

sounds like fun actually....

I don't think the idea of VTEC is to make an engine rev to infinity and back. I thought it was to optimise the efficiency over the available rev range instead of making compromises over part of it.

If im honest i know little other than it works on the cams i think.....

However cars like the accord type r the, s2000 etc all have vtec and rev to motorbike type rpm's, with a lot of the power being at the top end,

i think vtec utalises the fact that standard engines can reva a lot higher than most manufactures allow, as the ports can only allow so much exhasting.....?? soa different cam takes over? with higher clearances???

this is bassed on last weeks brown trouser moment in my collegues new accord type r v tec.. notheing untill 5000 rpm then boom.... takes off like a rocket..... till about 9000 rpm..... bit liek a t strke really, just a lot more expensive.... impressive non the less...

The new honda CB1300 has v tec.. Bike were very impressed with it....
quite fancy one meself...

Yep. The cam has more than one profile and in a certain rev range the cam is shifted from one profile to another and in turn changes the opening and duration of the valves.
