James will see you right. I just had my first adventure on Scottish roads today. I was grinning from start to finish and my pants are still slightly tented. MotoGoLoco may not be up and running just yet but the knowledge is alive and kicking and slowly being digitised as we speak.

If you're going in the summer take plenty of Avon skin so soft to protect you from the midges.

Guess what.......

it's been almost 15 years since I last done scotland and it very much depends on what you want as the country has many different faces, can't really help on the cabin thing as I mostly pack a tent for accomadation, but as a first excursion I'd probably go up through the Trossachs park from Dunbarton, up the side of Loch Lomand follow the road out the top to Glen Coe, A82 I believe, keep going and take the ferry across to Corran, follow the road North and it'll take you on a loop of about 70 miles before returning you to the ferry, jump back on that and cross again, shoot north to Fort william for dinner, if on the other hand you want a grander scale, so to speak carry on the A82 to Loch Garry and take the major Left there can't remember what the road number is, but it's signed for Domie, from there you have a choice of following the road over to sky and doing that loop or turning off and heading further North (personally I'd do the sky loop myself) up north you'll find the road to some wonderfully country, but to be honest I'd probably start from Avimore side if I was aiming for that area.

Hope that's of some help.

Cheers Mark.

He was... and we even snuck out for a cheeky little at lunchtime to give him a taster of the sort of roads we've got on our doorstep...

(That's 20 mins ride from MotoGoLoco HQ by the way...)

There are lots of places to stay in the southern half of Scotland

As Peter said The Galloway Activity Centre is great and there are lots of good roads in that area. It gives you these roads;

A712 – Newton Stewart – New Galloway
A702 – St Johns Town of Dalry – Elvanfoot
The loop of A713 and the B729 is nice too.

You could also stay at Tibbie Shiels Inn (it’s a little scruffy but not bad) it gives you close access to these roads;
A701 – Moffat – Broughton – the climb out of Moffat is amazing (also go the to Moffat Toffee Shop)
A708 Moffat – Selkirk
The Talla Linnfoots road is worth experiencing too.

There are cabins at Glentress Forrest (just outside Peebles) they were one of the options for this years GM they give access to the roads above...

If I was being honest though I’d say make the extra effort to try and get north of the Glasgow Edinburgh area and the roads become amazing.

Beinglas as already mentioned gives you some wonderful roads.

A83 – Tarbet – Lochgilphead
A816 – Lochgilphead – Oban
A85 – Oban – Crieff – any stretch of this road is great, my favourite bits are Dalmally to Tyndrum (stop at the Green Welly and talk bikes with everyone) & Lochearnhead to Crieff (Country Kitchen in Crieff does great fry ups)

If you’re feeling really adventurous try making it up to Kinlochleven for the best 16 miles of road in Britain

The MacDonald Hotel have cabins at reasonable prices too.

You could of course really push the boat out and come up to this years GMviJ

You’ll get the chance to meet a whole load of nice people off the forum.... And me!

20 mins for me and Clint. 40 mins for you judging by the advancement of my hypothermia when you finally got there.
