Builders/Chippy's on here?
Need some info about bolts/fixings please.
I'm looking for a weird type of bolt but dunno what they're called. Because of that, I'm not having much luck finding anywhere that sells them! So, here goes an explanation, lol. A pair of these thing's I'm looking for have been used on one of our bedroom door handles. When the builders were doing snagging, we pointed out it was coming adrift of the door. They'd just used a normal half inch long screw into the door - far too short so when u twisted the handle it was hauling the screws out. SO the guy replaced it with these weird bolts. The rest of the house hasn't got them and they're slack or worse, falling off everywhere...most annoying in a barely 2yr old house! The bolt goes straight thru from one side to the other on the door but because the handle has a push-on rose not unlike like this design.... ...they are behind the rose and countersunk both ends. You can't remove them once fitted. I just tried doing that, so I could at least take a pic. The head end is slotted for a screwdriver and the 'nut' end has a phillips head. But i think the nut is just a serrated sleve and pushed onto the plain shank perhaps? From memory it's about 4" long and he just snipped them to length with pliers, then pushed the cap on flush with the fitting under the rose. PHEW! Any ideas wot these little buggers are? Or something similar, otherwise someone will get stuck in the bog with a handle in their hand. |

But re-reading its not them These are cavity wall fittings, and behave like you describe, they expand in the cavity and wont come out again |

Re: Builders/Chippy's on here?
they are called inter screws.
screwfix only do them to about 40mm long if i remember. they are an M4 thread so if you can get the sleeves and the screw is not long enough it shouldnt be too diffcult to find the male part long enough. (ooooerrr!!) lol if i remember you can get longer ones from places like B&Q that fix cupboard handles onto units, these can be snipped to size. edit: http://www.screwfix.com/prods/65152/...-M4-Pack-of-10 Last edited by rotax81; 22-05-10 at 09:20 PM. Re: Builders/Chippy's on here?
I know them as weag bolts.
That's if it's the ones that clamp the handles together through the door. If it is these, pm me an address and how many you need and I'll post some over to you. |
