Possible carb issue on curvy

Fired up the bike the other day and noticed that despite idling and running at low rev's fine, once the rev's went up, the bike would sit and idle at around 3k.
I've cleaned up a couple of little bits and pieces but am I right in thinking this is likely due to gunk deeper within the carbs like within the main jet?

Tried the bike again today and the same thing.
I had to replace the fuel tap/filter a couple of weeks ago as it had torn and likely let a load of junk through so am thinking I'm paying the price for it now.

Never pulled the carbs before so been trying to avoid it but if needs must, its gotta be done.

I'm not familiar with the carbs on the SV but before you dismantle make sure there is no muck on the throttle stop between the idle adjustment screw and the body on the carb. This will affect the idle speed when the choke is off.
I apologise if the carbs on the SV don't have this arrangement.

Thanks. Already checked this and the idle adjuster is all the way out. I've recently changed a spring on the carbs so am now wondering if I've altered the mix so may just need re-balancing.

Could be sticky choke plungers, a known curvy issue. Take them out & clean them (if you haven't already), mind that the screws holding them in are made of cheese. No need to take the carbs off to do this.

Was also looking through web sites about this issue and am now thinking it could be an air leak, but will start with all the non-carb removing options first

No, you need to take them out, clean and lube them, to stop them sticking. Its not hard to do, once you've taken the aire box off.

Took the bike for a test run today after going through a few items. Still idles high after the rev's are increased plus plus I noticed some fuel on the underside of the float chamber to the front carb. The carbs were cleaned about 3-4 months ago and I've done less than 200 miles on he bike since but I think the carbs will need to be pulled off and re-checked. Will give me a chance to check for any other issues which might be causing a vacuum leak too.

Probably your float valve is not closing and it's flooding.
That sounds like it might be your problem. Debris between the float valve and seat will cause this.

If its debris, then check the fuel filter in the tank is in good order, so remove the fuel tap and/or install an inline filter

it's either as wideguy says, or you have an air leak on the carb inlet rubbers. this will cause the bike to remain at a higher revving idle after being on the throttle. It will also cause the bike to run lean too.

check the carb rubbers haven't been caught when you put them back on.
