Frame weld crack!
Is my bike f***ed?
Sv650 SK3. Cracked weld on the left side. Noticed today. Bike has been down a couple of times a few years ago, nothing major. Seen this come to light and need to decide whether it's worth fixing or buying a new bike? https://ibb.co/6Y4DWxM Cheers. Last edited by isutty5; 17-02-19 at 01:35 PM. |

Re: Frame weld crack!
Get the frame checked to make sure it's not twisted and then find someone good to reweld I'd say.

Re: Frame weld crack!
Any ideas of cost for such a weld? Not sure if engine would need removing or not? Will speak to local mechanic tomorrow. It's my only transport. Seems safe enough short term but wouldn't like to leave it unseen to!

Re: Frame weld crack!
16 year old SV had a few spills so maybe a bit rough round the edges? Logic says its worth very little and therefore a write off. If it was me Id sell it for scrap and buy another one.

Re: Frame weld crack!
To inspect the frame for any possible further damage and weld it properly would require a total stripdown.
If you have the available time and ability to do that yourself its possibly worth a go. Personally I reckon best course of action is to sell "as seen" for spares or repairs and get an AL7. You might even get a few hundred quid from a dealer as a trade in on a brand new one. |
