So he set up pre-load and damping for you on your bike? What did this entail, just cos I'm interested?

DUNNooooooooooooooo Mike.. !

if I knew I wudda done it myself instead of me fiddling and fookin it up and makin it want to go in a straight line..

made me very welcome. asked my weight (I was honest) .. bike in to workshop. I sat on bike. he fiddled- i went for a brew- he fiddled some more then i sat on it again for measuring the sag??? .. then all done..

prior to goin .. I had returned all the screws and adjusters to stock from manual and it was crap.. I fiddled more all day one day and it was worse..

I been there and its fabulous... ! he def aint just returned them to stock cos even as novice as I am I would tell.. it is just sublime now. ! how he did it I dont know.. what he tweeked I dont know. there are so many permutations aint there?..

there a re all pics of Shakey Byre and Dave Mcguiness all signed with thanks etc etc and lots of moto x racers signed in there saying thanks for the seasons set up ..

I didnt stay and ask or watch I went for a brew- I suppose I should have stayed n chatted and learnt somethin eh.

He didn't slip some SV forks in while your back was turned, did he?

Fair enough fella. On your bike you can adjust the spring pre-load (sets up the sag) and also the compression AND rebound damping. Damping is the action of the oil in your suspension to smooth and control the bounciness of the springs. Without the damping the springs would be like pogo-sticks and bounce you into the hedge good style!

I know what you mean about so many permutations, so letting someone who knows what they doing at it makes sense. £40 seems a bargain.

My bouncy bits are at Maxton now for full set up (plus new rear shock) so I hope I am as happy as you are with it

Expensive brew, I would have stayed & learned, although i guess you don't need to now it's done.

If you're talking about an SV* esp. K1 or prior, there's very little to adjust.

*If you're not, I've got a PB guide for 62 bikes that I could scan & post - hoping to follow it myself this w/e.
