The only thing about polls in the last few years is that they are all useless, remain was well ahead before 2016 referendum, tories were well ahead in polls in 2017, Democrats were well ahead in 2016 USA elections, your would be better licking your finger and holding it in the wind to see who will win. Their precious infallible computer models still cannot beat the human experts....

It is no longer the case that working class vote Labour and white collar workers vote conservative, the ambivalent Labour attitude to honouring the result of 2016 Brexit vote has changed all that, Labour can no longer rely on their traditional supporters, they may be able to bamboozle younger less experienced voters ( which is why Labour wants votes for 16 year olds) but older voters know that Labour uses taxpayers money to bribe voters and will spend until they run out of other peoples money and rack up a huge deficit. It is said that voters become 1.8% more Conservative every year as they grow older, I guess they lose their belief the the 'magic money tree' exists and you really can keep spending money without having a strong economy to support that spending.

Laugh away, it does not change the facts that UK is #6 out of 136 and an independent Scotland would hardly appear on the list, especially when rest of UK take their nuclear bases, conventional bases, shipbuilding and other weapons out of Scotland, NATO relies on nuclear power to keep peace, so Scotlands ( well SNP anyway ) seeming hatred of nuclear would not impress them..
British armed forces 157000 active personnel.
That's 22 in the list.
10 of the 21 above us have more than three times the numbers we have.

Nuclear weapons are leased from the USA, we don't actually own a single warhead, nor can we use them without permission from the owner.
Not that it matters because nukes are completely pointless and of no use whatsoever.

Anyway back to the Brexit omnishambles, there's strong and credible rumours circulating that Treeza is getting ready to pull the plug and revoke A50

The real comedy gold though is the belief that being strong militarily is even important.
It just serves to reinforce the argument that little englanders are utterly deluded and living in a past that never was.

really? Like the Tories increasing benefits to pensioners? The tories have been bribing pensioners for the last 8 years whilst abandoning young people.

I really didn't want to get into a left/right discussion since brexit is bad enough, but after 8 years of austerity which has failed to reach the targets that the tories keep moving, plus crumbling infrastructure, rising poverty/homelessness and social services slashed so much they are barely working; I'd prefer a different plan, preferably without a tory in it. Unfortunately that seems unlikely without Scotland ditching the SNP and voting Labour and I can't see that happening (if I were a Scot I'd vote SNP).

If the tories had started a massive infrastructure building plan 8 years ago when money was cheap the economy would have grown to (help) pay for it and even if it hadn't at least we would have had something to show for it. Whereas now, we still have debt and nothing except Crossrail which has problems and a plan for HS2 which nobody (except the tories) seems to want even Labour seem to be losing enthusiasm (and wasn't it their idea?)

Meanwhile the leave the EU without a deal petition has reached 200,000.

Many countries have little or no armed forces and get along just fine.

They get along fine because they are on good terms with countries that have large and effective armed forces, mainly under the umbrella of NATO.

Having a large armed force and having an effective and well equipped and battle ready armed force is not the same, Germany looks good on paper but in reality most of their equipment is not kept in serviceable condition and very few spares, they have outsourced their defence to NATO but do not contribute anywhere near enough to NATO capability or coffers.

It appears we have full control of our nuclear weapons....

https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/no-a...clear-weapons/

Don't know where the cancelling a50 rumours came from, the Beano is not, and never was considered a credible news source.

I'm not disagreeing with you about the requirement for defence, but are we really a better example?

Have we improved since the Falklands?
