south Yorkshire police using unmarked articulated lorry (without trailer) on motorways
www.cromwelltrucks.com/news/newsview/24
Just seen it on calendar news. Mainly to catch other lorries as they can see directly into the cab (drivers without seatbelts/using phone/not driving safely etc). but will have a marked car following behind for when they're ready to pull. Calendar said it was an undercover lorry, but then showed the silver Mercedes cab with reg plate YR09 *** - also has something like SEO driver training sign written on it with a big Mercedes logo. I know 99% of us ride safely but just something else to be aware of. Joe - stay out of south Yorkshire.

For it to be legal it must be restricted to 85kph so at least it will not be chasing speeders.
Do police drivers have to conform to the same restrictions as far as DCC AND TACHO or are the rules just flaunted because it is police? |

Re: south Yorkshire police using unmarked articulated lorry (without trailer) on motorways
Would it still be restricted if it's not got a trailer? Just a general question as I don't know that much about hgv law.
When I posted I was thinking more along the lines of 'if you do something daft in front of this completely run-of-the-mill artic lorry cab, they will most likely call the marked car which is following half a mile behind to come & have a word' - and they'd have a great vantage point to film you with their handheld camcorder

If I remember from the segment in Traffic Cops, it is derestricted as well as tacho exempt - some of the hills around here, you wouldn't be able to get a look into more than 4 cabs without running out of county without that extra turn of speed.
