Re: Recommend me: A good quality sleeping bag
I do!
The wife hates it! As for Sleeping bags, I use a Mountain Equipment bag with cotton liner. The liner protects your bag from getting soiled, but can be awkward to get used too. My bag is four season and the comfort rating is from -15 to +5 degrees celcius. The only time it was too hot to use was a climbing trip to Italy. However, dumped in a bivvy bag on Dartmoor or in my tent in the French Alps, it was perfectly comfortable. I even got a little frisky in that bag once with a climbing instructor in Bordeaux, but that is another story. Anyway, I totally rate Mountain Equipment, Rab or Coleman for quality kit at varying price points. I have also used a Thermorest, but found them to be a little to thin for my liking. I now have a Back Packers Air Bed, this inflates to four inches and deflates to roll up to the size of an insulated Mug. It is a great bit of kit and worth every penny it cost, unlike the thermorest, which eventually got a puncture which I could not repair because the material perished. |

Re: Recommend me: A good quality sleeping bag
I've heard Aztec sleeping bags are very good for the money, one recommendation was from a suspected tramp so well worth a look I reckon.
ajungilak are also very good

Re: Recommend me: A good quality sleeping bag
" even when using a 2 season bag at the height of summer inside a small 3 man tent I've woken up shivering through the night at times... "
Not surprised, Paul - that was FEAR making you shiver! Select your camp companions with more care in future.

Therefore in the summer, when it's too warm, the tesco value sleeping bag is plenty warm enough, and the duvet is not required. However, not ideal on the bike, and we've been looking at Go Outdoors at Wakefield for a new Double one which might pack up small enough for the bike. And No, I don't trump - my fella's orchestra is more than warm enough. Bleurgh. |

Re: Recommend me: A good quality sleeping bag
Traditional wisdom is to put 2/3rds of your available bedding below you.
This is because the ground is better at stealing your body warmth than the air is. What I use is a Vango, self-inflating camping mat and one of the timy Snugpak sleeping bags. If its in the winter I have my bigger Snugpack thats good to -17C I do have a couple of the Vango XL sleeping bags which are nice and roomy and very warm too.

Another vote for SnugPack. My Softie 12 has kept me toastie for years. Have not had too much problem with cold coming up from the ground through it either but I have not camped in cooler weather for a long time.

The nightstar Vango bags will keep you warm, but even the 450 will feel a bit straightjacket like. They are mummy bags.
I throw my legs all over the place when sleep, you can't do that in these tyes of bag. I'll be using a Vango 350in north wales this weeknd supposed to be -2 over night

Re: Recommend me: A good quality sleeping bag
From reading about what the carp fishing guys use for their overnight sessions, the genuine British Army sleeping bags are the business, this was compared to other commercial ones.
Plus they can be had for peanuts on Ebay. There's a 4 seasons version. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_tr...g+bag&_sacat=0 What these nutters don't know about camping out in middle of winter isn't worth knowing about
