Default South Coast to the Midlands - route planning...

So I'm attending a work conference in Much Wenlock (Between Telford and Shrewsbury)

The plan is to get a colleague to take my bag up for me the day before (managers get an extra day of talks) and ride up myself on the day if the weather is OK

Any places to see on the way from Lymington / Southampton? Somewhere nice for lunch perhaps? Any roads to try out? Anyone around on the 25th September and fancy a brief ride north? Not bothered by some dual carriageway work but no long stints on motorways please

Don't have to be there until 2pm or so so I have most of the day to travel

I can't think of anywhere big enough in Much Wenlock for a conference

Aim to come through Kidderminster. The town is a dump but the road (A442) from there to Bridgnorth is just a bit twisty. Also the ride from Bridgie to MW is nice and fast, unless you're one of these people who stick to the speed limit

the company isn't that big - it's at the edge activity centre, they list on their website quad biking, offroad karts, clay shooting, high wires and most frightening of all... "team building"

cheers for the route, will make a note of any that reply and try and string a few together - used to live in inkberrow nr. redditch years a go, went swimming in kidderminster, it obviously hasn't improved much

as for the speed limit, you must've missed my reply in the "20s and 30s" thread:

Also come though the Cotswolds and down Fish Hill (turn around and go up Fish Hill then back down) into Evesham some lovely roads via the Cotswolds and then the wide roads around Evesham are great and most drivers pull to the side for you.

From there you can pick up signs for Pershore then Kidderminster and drop onto the A449.

Ed's right about Kidderminster it is a dump (spent most of my life living about 10 miles from there) but go round all the Islands and the road to Bridgnorth is great.

No doubt you've heard of the Bikers cafe at Quatt or Quattford to be more accurate. Dunno if they'll be many bikers around though on a Thursday.

You could stay over and NW4 though

well, i'm off tomorrow...

haven't packed anything, haven't booked a ferry yet, guess it's more of an adventure if you don't know where you're going

any route recommendations for the southern end of the journey? otherwise i'll just avoid the motorways and navigate by map

Well, i would go across or through the New Forest and head for Bournemouth/Poole then head up the A350 towards Blandford then Warminster, Bath then the A429 to Cirencester, some nice A roads with some quick bits too!
