K4 Sv650 will not start
Hi folks , help is very much needed.
Not started my SV650 for a year (long story) . Two issues I need help with please. First issue. Can you tell me where this cable should be connected ? (pic attached). I fitted leads for a maintenance charger over a year ago, and not touched the bike since. So maybe its off the battery , but can not find anything to confirm where it fits or what it is, I am embarrassed to say. Second and major issue (assuming the before mentioned disconnected cable is not related). F1 code showing, will not fire up. The battery/turn over seems strong (lights/clocks ok). Has been connected to a maintenance charger the whole time. When the ignition is switched on not getting the whirling noise. That I assume would be the fuel pump. On looking I noticed the 10amp fuse indicated as fuel, was blown. I replaced it a few times, but when turning on the ignition I can hear the fuse blow again. Is it as it seems, and the fuel pump? If so what options/suggestions is there? Or if you have any other ideas on the issue. Thanks in advance Baz.

Re: K4 Sv650 will not start
That looks like a proximity sensor.
Probably part of an after market alarm. https://media.digikey.com/pdf/Data%2...PDFs/59135.pdf Was it disconnected to stop it draining the battery? Sent from an S20 using Tapatalk with that kin cr4p blocked

Re: K4 Sv650 will not start
Thanks for your reply/link. Defo what it looks like, nice one.
I had the bike from new, and came fitted with a Thatcham 1 alarm. Maybe it was never connected for what ever reason, to be fair it was tucked away. Probably why I never noticed it before, until today looking to see if there was any wire breaks ( due to the bike not starting). I have replaced a couple batteries over the life of the bike and dont recall that connection. Why it stumped me. I assume a proximity sensor would detect if your close to the bike and makes a noise etc. I dont ever recall it doing that if thats the case. Wonder where it was ment to be fitted.

Re: K4 Sv650 will not start
I'm wondering if your fuse is blowing due to a short circuit or maybe the fuel pump in the tank is gummed up with stall fuel due to it sitting so long. Just a guess.

Re: K4 Sv650 will not start
So the alarm could be a red herring.
Let's look at the fuse blowing. I'd start disconnecting live from the fuel pump (at the pump end) and testing the resistance between the pump terminal (you've just disconnected the live from) and ground {bike chassis or -ve battery terminal}. If it close to 0 ohm, you've got a faulty pump. If it's a reasonably high figure (>100) then you have a short in the 12v feed (it's resistance to ground will be 0-ish ohm). You'll need to trace the wire back to the fuse and find where it's shorted (should be easy to spot as it's probably burnt). Replace the cable. If you haven't got a multimeter, disconnect the live from the pump. Replace the fuse. If it still blows you have a short in the feed to the pump. Hope that helps. Edit: the fuel pumps in the tank? Do, as above, as close to the pump as possible, might save you having to remove it from the tank. Sent from an S20 using Tapatalk with that kin cr4p blocked

Re: K4 Sv650 will not start
has the bike been sitting inside or out?
are you starting the bike with the charger connected? very much doubt that its the fuel pump if its only been sitting a year unless there has been no fuel in the tank, but hey you never know. |

Maybe the pump relay has died.

Re: K4 Sv650 will not start
Just to close this discussion, the bike is all sorted, a while ago to be honest. Been putting alot of hours in work and forget to reply.
The pump was bad, alot of rust/muck in the fuel/tank when drained. The inside of the tank had scales of rust. Soaked the tank in Evapo-rust , then finished with Por15 three stage kit clean/prep/seal. Managed to get a nice looking second hand pump. I took it apart to inspect the strianer and condition (seen a few youtube videos). Frankly the pump looked nearly new , lucky there I reckon. Everything seems good now, cheers for everyones help/advice. Baz
