Default SV1050 anyone?

I had this email from Dan of the York Suzuki dealership. He thought this may be of interest to our group and I agree.

Morning John

Apologies for the message out of the blue, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dan, I'm the general manager at York Suzuki Centre, a solus Suzuki motorcycle dealership in York.

We have been messaged by an Italian dealership contact of ours who is involved with Suzuki Italy in regards to new model input, and they have asked us to contact SV related owners clubs in the UK regarding an upcoming project.

The long and short of it is that they are going to build a new SV concept, based on the DL1050 platform, with the aim of showing it to Suzuki Japan in hope that it will be taken on as a new model. Although this is at a very early stage, you may remember that the new Katana came about through the same process after being showcased at EICMA a few years back, so there is a real possibility this project may lead to a new SV model being introduced to the Suzuki range.

If you are interested, the contact has sent us a brief questionnaire to share with your owners club to gauge what the end goal of a new SV1050 should be. The link is below:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...XYraw/viewform

Please feel free to share it with your forum members, but we have been asked to try to keep it within the SV community as much as possible at this point. I must stress that at this point this is not an official Suzuki project.

Do not hesitate to contact me about anything, although at this point you know pretty much everything I do on this subject!

Kindest regards,

--

It should be a fairly easy conversion to a full-on road bike: the 1050 has a nice beam frame, so it's a case of road forks, different rear linkage, etc and road-orientated styling. Maybe a little more grunt from the motor but 105bhp and 75ft-lb isn't shabby at all.

If Suzuki could get that into a package that doesn't weigh too much more than the Gen 3 SV650 it would be a cracking road machine.

You'll struggle to get the weight that low, considering the V-Strom is 236KG Kerb mass. My guess it would be a similar weight, around 230KG which is ok for a 1000CC bike.
Power should be more - around 120BHP same as the last one which was also lighter . . . being heavier with less power is not going to enhance the riding experience.

Sounds good to me.
What would it's nearest competitors be?

The nearest would probably be the KTM 890 Duke, which is 120bhp, 68lb-ft and supposedly 185 kilos (405 pounds) kerb weight. If Suzuki could get near those specs and at a lower price, they'd be doing well.

Are they going to make it into an adventurery tourer looking thing like the DL or not? Looks like they haven't decided from the questions. (Hope they avoid those colour schemes)

I'm up for a powerful, v-twin sport tourer (that's ideally lightweight!).

I was imagining it would be more like the Kawasaki 1000 or a VFR800.

Perhaps Suzuki should follow this example (and Kawasaki's lead with the H2) and supercharge it:

http://www.streetfighters.com.au/for...v1000-for-sale

169bhp and well over 100ft-lb of torque ...

low seat height tour with full pannier set and decent styling would be nice. but no doubts it will be fugly Japan styled.
