If only there was a way to avoid the need for most of this, some sort of club or union we could join perhaps.

But won't it save great British brands such as Brooks, the famous and historic British leather saddle manufacturer?

Nope, as their distribution is in Italy and they now might not import their products (made in the UK) back in to the UK as it's too expensive apparently. We can't currently stock anything from Brooks at the shop I work at.

What you need to do now is turn your holiday in to a road trip shopping holiday to Europe . . . .

All the government needs to do is reverse the stupid decision to make sellers responsible and bring it back to pay vat on entry into UK and the whole mess goes away, however that would need a fully staffed and competent customs house setup - which we do not have and probably never will.

I will come clean and say in advance that I have had excellent service from this particular retailer, I bought a new Shoei Neotec2 from them just before christmas when they offered me a price-beat deal. So while not having any commercial connection, I am a satisfied customer and I quite like their philosophy. Your opinion may differ.
This is quite a good article describing the reality of buying from an EU retailer.

Aah yes, unfortunately successive governments have reduced the staffing until it's too late, and all the experienced staff have retired.

Meanwhile HMRC who are responsible for collecting Vat and duty at importation have become an inland department more focused on Income tax than duty collection. This is because the department is run by former Inland revenue Chiefs. Thank Gordon Brown for that calamitous decision.

Every other EU country that has traffic from the UK has massively increased its staffing, well in advance of Brexit. The UK ..................

Latest government advice:
https://www.theguardian.com/politics...-up-shop-in-eu

Open shop in EU, lay off workers in UK, employ workers in EU and VAT goes where? (presumably to EU). I suppose the business owner still makes money but the UK worker? Tough luck.

Didn't see this on the side of a bus.
