Hi all.
Am now the proud owner of an 02 SV650 bought today. ![]() There are a couple of questions I wanted to ask: 1 - The front of the forks are a bit pitted - can this be polished out? It appears to be only cosmetic damage, but the rest of the bike is pretty mint, so I'd like to deal with it if possible. 2 - The bike has a belly pan fitted, but the front downpipe section of the exhaust still has (what appears to be) the usual corrosion. How do people deal with this? Thanks for any advice. |

Hi and welcome
Forks - Yes they do get pitted, if you have the time and patience you can strip the lacquer off and then polish it off. I'm not sure what the process is, it'll probably be wet and dry and then autosol to polish it out. Exhaust - Thats also pretty normal, its burnt on dirt and road grime. Again you can polish it with autosol or similar, but it takes IMHO an awful lot of work to keep it shiney, and I dont think its worth it. It wont effect the bike in anyway though so its nothing to worry about.

Just to check, if you mean the finish on the fork lowers (that are connected to the wheel, brakes etc) are looking rough then follow above advice. if you mean that the chrome fork stanchions below the yokes are pitted then this is a less common and more serious issue, and will probably require new parts.
Just added as a check, it's almost certainly the lowers / sliders that are the concern. Jambo
