Loud pipes save...
...fuel?
After fitting my new pipe and filling her up i've now managed to do 140 miles before the light came on, normally it would be 110-115 miles anyone else experienced this? i'm sure some of it is to do with being gentler with the right hand, but 30 extra miles? surely not also noticed a couple of other things, when you start it cold it tends to hunt for a while around idle, and stalls very easily. also (and i think it was mentioned in another thread tonight) it seems to be a bit slack around the mid range, although the top end feels quicker, how much of it is just perception i don't know the pipe is essentially straight through from the cut in the original system, no baffles at all, perhaps time to go find a dyno and get the fuelling set up differently?

Re: Loud pipes save...
i can't see how it's affecting the amount of fuel used at all, since the SV has no feedback mechanism to adjust the fuelling to suit the airflow surely the injectors are firing just as they did before, it's just the airflow has increased due to the lack of back-pressure, increasing the air:fuel ratio
tbh the fuel consumption doesn't bother me either way, but i'd prefer not to have the bike running lean...

Re: Loud pipes save...
If it's hunting and lost some midrange it's probably running lean - i'd get it dyno'd.

Re: Loud pipes save...
From what I've heard ( I believe from SV650Racer for example) running lean (which will damage your engine) will in no way show up in your economy. So there's nothing good about it.
I would say you've been frieghtened by the noise & kept the revs down. Strange, as I loved the noise & kept the revs up, specially in tunnels with a Police bike behind me |

cheers for all the replies regarding the fuelling, general consensus seems to be that steve jordan mc are pretty good and will map straight to the stock ecu so a trip to boxhill might be in order one saturday...
