Default grand candy blue paint knightmare

Help!! i'm trying to spray a lower fairing on my wifes blue SV, instead of just spraying a blue metallic paint you have to spray a silver base coat and then a blue overcoat to darken until the desired colour blue is achieved! sounds easy enough huh!
What a sodding knightmare I've run out of YC2 blue which is flipping expensive, the shade is not even all round the panel, and I think if I had 20 cans of the stuff I would'nt get an exact match.

Why can't there be just one colour of blue metallic so you get an exact match everytime
So does anyone know of an automotive colour available that will match a blue SV 2000?

Cheers,
Martin

There is no car automotive alternative colour available - i know, I tried too when my my lower fairing got a good scuff down the road....

If you know a local bike painter, then see them, as getting the correct match is a total nightmare..... Dada tried doing mine to match up to the tank, and eventually lost the plot.

Just been to a guy who calls himself the plastic surgeon and got a quote of 45+ VAT for the panel which is pretty good.
Shame I wasted 40quid already just on paint
Live and learn eh

I've just done mine in Y9H.
On mine the yellow is applied 1st then the pearl (silver speckles)
followed by the clearcoat.
So I would think yours would be in the same order blue/silver/clearcoat

The Y9H lively yellow process is as follows-
1st=Ground coat which in my case is just a plain yellow of the colour code which when applied will dry matt.

2nd=Base coat which is not designed to have any covering properties
meaning it is very transparent, but it contain the mica particals which
give the sparkle to the finished colour and again this dries with no
shine.

3rd=Clear coat which give the protection and the shine which makes
the mica standout.

To sum up I dont think you would get a very good match from an all in one spray can.

You could get all three products mixed up in seperate can and obtain reasonable results.

You could buy the paints in 1/2 litre cans from Brown brothers etc
and then have them put into aerosols.

Anyway I'am off to fit my lowers which I painted yesterday in Y9H
2k.

strange

So the bike is silver with blue mica then?

The blue must be transparent then is it

My yellow is not transparent just the silver mica (pearl)
that is, hence the yellow 1st then the pearl then the clear
