Learner Legal SuperMoto
Need some help here guys....
My lad is taking his CBT this weekend and is thinking of getting a bike for fun / commuting to work. He would like a SuperMoto type machine but really has no idea what he's looking for. My knowledge of bikes is pretty limited - I know what I like and tend to stick with that... Any recommendations on what to look for? |

Re: Learner Legal SuperMoto
I think Derbi do a 50/125cc SM type device
Found these http://www.f1products.co.uk/mikilon-...ike-p-235.html http://www.itsmymarket.com/classifie...c-value-30515/ http://www.motorbikestoday.com/revie.../mz_125_sm.htm http://www.pulsegb.co.uk/ http://www.theapriliacentre.com/apri...torcycles.html http://www.derbi.com/int/index.php?o...=38&Itemid=206 Last edited by Viney; 06-02-09 at 11:11 AM. |

Re: Learner Legal SuperMoto
I also think Aprillia do something similar, but it'll be two stroke so it'll want some TLC and running on decent oil otherwise its going to let go, to be honest it might just let go anyway...

Re: Learner Legal SuperMoto
125 after his CBT. He is 21.

Yeah we hope so too, because he is unlikely to have another chance for weeks due to work. |

Re: Learner Legal SuperMoto
Aside from the obvious
You could go for something like a KTM 450 and restrict it, but it'll take some maintenance to keep it looking good and 3-500mile oil changes probably may not work for commuting The ~400cc Yamaha and Honda bikes offer slightly less bang than the KTM bikes but are easier to keep running, they'll need restricting also, they also come from the MX background so the bikes are aimed more at performance than easy going riding You could try some of the 125cc bikes that manufacturers are releasing now, but tbh they're expensive and you can get a 400cc bike for about the same money with twice the power for not much extra weight The Suzuki DRZ will have the least outright performance, but is by far the most civilised in terms of vibrations and is easy to look after edit: thought you were after a 33bhp machine after your PM - why not get a knackered old 125 to commute on now and no direct access when summer comes around?

Viney, thanks for those links. He has limited funds, so looking for something quite old methinks. The MZ might be worth a go, not a trendy name so may be a bit cheaper. |
