Default Aftermarket Speedometer for 2000 SV650 (Y)

I need to replace my stock speedometer

Can anyone make any recommendations for me please? I need something relatively simple to install. Any ideas?

I'm worried about the shape of the key socket.

A standard aftermarket one may look strange. Please help if you can.

As usual, the more info the better, so why do you need to replace your Speedo?

On the assumption the reason is that your current Speedo no longer works have you tried sourcing a good second hand Suzuki SV Speedo given that is likely to be the easiest to fit?

from what I've read the simplest to install would be a GPS speedo - just need power and a location for the antenna, but you'd be limited by satellite reception. A non GPS will need magnets secured to your front wheel and a pick up to the fork leg and then typically calibrated by inputting wheel circumference.

The most common reason for the stock speedo to cease working is a broken rotor in the front wheel.

A couple of things that's reminded me of:

1) when I started looking at SVs again I had a look into GPS Speedos as I thought an easy to read digital Speedo might be a worthwhile addition to the analogue one fitted to earlier SVs. In the end I bought a Gen 3 SV with Digi Speedo as standard, but there are certainly plenty of aftermarket GPS Speedos on eBay that will readily mount to the handlebars or an accessory bracket.

2) Many years ago I actually fitted a cheap digital bicycle Speedo to a little Honda 250 single. Just needed a little bit of imagination attaching the motion sensor to the forkleg, but nothing some decent cable ties won't sort.

In terms of fixing your current Speedo, pretty easy to determine whether the fault is Speedo or drive related (on a cable drive speedo) just detach the cable from the back of the Speedo and then spin the front wheel - if the top of cable rotates your Speedo is broken, if it doesn't then it's either a bust cable or dodgy cable drive at the wheel end

the curvy SV (or any SV) doesn't have a speedo cable, it's electronic.

Ah. Ok

Sold my curvy 10 years ago and didn't have it long.......

Not really scrutinized this area of my AL8, but I suppose it's mainly horrible Chinese 125s that have cable drive Speedos these days.

I looked into this before I managed to repair my blown Rev counter and there didn't seem to be an easy option.I toyed with the Idea of one of these,

In my minor defence I was tired when I wrote that - err a cable drive full LCD display would be pretty unlikely on the Gen 3 SV

Still getting used to how quiet this forum is, so probably already feel some sort of desire to keep it going as it were, but not at the expense of posting any old tosh and sounding like an idiot.

Wonder if the O.P. is going to drop back in?

The original speedo is working but the lcd has a black patch I can't get rid of. I can live with it but it is covering up the mileage which may be awkward on resale. I'm sure a used one would be a good solution, I just like the look of these digital ones. I'm just worried the wiring would be too tricky

Thanks seeker. I did have to replace the rotor a while back. Just bummed with black screen on the LCD. I do like this one but think it would look strange on a first gen SV and don't fancy getting stuck with mapping the wires.
