Do not know any thing about the STVA but in my line of work often had computer based equipment soaked by coffee or tea! If there was no sugar in the liquid there was a chance that on drying the equipment out it could be salvaged. On one sealed 'box' I resorted to carefully drilling a hole in the casing - then left it on top of a rad overnight, hole up, then resealing the hole afterwards. If an electric current is passed through damp equipment then apart from the risk of blowing components it can cause an insulation breakdown between PCB tracks when they are at a different potential to each other. This could sometimes be cured by running a screwdriver along the PCB between the tracks. This may be totally irrelevant to your problem if so ignore.

Yes that all makes sense and Im hoping the actuator might be saveable. I believe its just an electric motor with no electronics but is showing low resistance to earth and looks pretty well sealed but not enough to withstand immersion. The problem as youve found is that water gets in but is very difficult to get out so I think the only solution is to take it apart....

Ok I'll ask.

How did you immerse this part of the bike and not the rest? Or did the whole bike go subaquatic.

no the whole bike spent 5 days underwater and as I put in my other thread it cleaned up pretty well and initially ran perfectly. However as I suspected it will have taken its toll...

Many thanks however the GSXR unit seems to be quite a different design from ours in that motor and gearbox are all in one unit while the SV one can be separated. In some ways it maybe easier as you can leave the gearbox in place, so not changing the valve position, and remove the motor assembly alone to work on. I have found pictures of it on ebay US and it looks to come straight off with no springs and gears to fly out....
