Bloomin NHS
So can I have the NHS for loss of earnings or summat.
You all know I came of bike last August, well since I have been under the works doc I have found that my arm took 6 months to heal and my operation was needed due to the NHS's wrong doings of leaving me in a sling for 3 months when I should not have been in a sling at all. Then I had physio on a broken arm which I shouldnt have had. Then when I had the op I had physio and after 3 months I was discharged from physio and surgeon and told to simply go the gym to build my muscle up. So I am now under my works doctor, who says all the exercises I have been doing 4 times a day since June I should not have been told to do. My muscle in my back on my right side is wasted away and doesn't work, this is the base I need before I start working on my shoulder. So all my efforts have been for nothing and I am not even capable of lying on my front with my arms head height and lifting them, as my muscles are not supporting my arm. GREAT. 6 months behind on physio, more muscle wastage and possible damage as I started lifting weights all cause NHS said I was OK. I have been on basic wage since Aug 07 and have lost thousands in overtime / bank holiday duties and it looks like another 12 months off operational duty. NHS stinks I have also got to say goodbye to my thoughts of going to Oz I am thoroughly pi**ed off. Sorry for the rant !!!

Re: Bloomin NHS
Because I am not operational they won't take me, application forms have to be in by Dec and assessment centre is in February. With all applying they will not take a bobbie on restricted duties when there are many that are operational.
Looks like I will have to wait another year I lost faith in my hospital when I was seen by a lower limb specialist for 3 months and he couldnt decide if they could operate when I challenged them. After 3 months and an arm showing now signs of bone knitting I figured pinning would be the obvious choice, even the surgeon was unsure as to what he could do ...... needless to say I was suddenly referred to an upper limb specialist who booked me in for an op as he thought I was going to loose the use of my arm (then cancelled the op the day before ). Can't wait to see what I break next and see how they deal with it LOL

Re: Bloomin NHS
Don't know about the answer to your question above, but I suspect you'd have to go up against the individual trust rather than the NHS as a whole. |

Re: Bloomin NHS
really sorry to hear about oz shelley, read all ur posts about it and know how excited you were.
if i was in your position id be speaking to a solicitor/citizens advice and see if there are options open to you to be reinbursed on the loss of earnings etc, and as said it would be the trust. while we are nhs bashing....let me tell u a rediculous bit of north bristol nhs trust's way of working... earlier this year or possibly the tail end of last year, it was all over the local news that north bristol trust was something like £30m in debt.... my mrs works for this trust...she is a chief cardiac physiologist...while all this was on the news she asked for 2 new chairs for her department...which her seniors provided...these 2 chairs were £600 each, ergonomic this - leather that all singing all dancing chairs, she didnt ask for this she just needed 2 chairs. i couldnt believe it when she told me...£1200 on 2 chairs... gotta love the nhs |

Re: Bloomin NHS
I don't really wanna go for taking the trust for cash as I am sure they need the dosh. I am just very very angry and the longer I am off the more money I loose. Basic pay is great but working a shift which falls on a bank holiday is worth £200 plus a shift and I would be getting a 'front line' bonus of £1000 this xmas, which I have lost too. So I feel super annoyed. I know it was my error in having the accident but in counting the 3 months error initially and now the 6 months physio b@lls up I am 9 months behind in recovery than I could have been. (last Xmas I lost 4 shifts alone and then there is all the summer bank hols I lost)
£1200 on 2 chairs, did they kill pick a designed cow for the leather?

Re: Bloomin NHS
'kin ell hun, that's really pants! Especially about Oz, as Dappa D said it was obvious how much you were looking forward to it, how utterly crap!
I'd certainly look into some sort of compensation, looks like you won't be able to work - in your line of work anyway - for a bit, they can't expect you to carry on like that. So much time wasted, their fault an' all! And so what if it was your error having the off, the NHS has a duty to make people well and fit to carry on with their lives, whereas all they've done in your case is hinder you and have now postponed a great career venture, not on I hope something good comes out of this for you! (like an nice mended shoulder perhaps ) #hugs# Maria xx Last edited by missyburd; 09-11-08 at 12:30 PM. |
