Based on those figures and assuming the journey and my riding was consistent, it means the reserve came on when I'd used around 12.5L.

That sounds like excellent fuel consumption, 255 miles/3.4 gallons = 75 MPG. I have not covered enough miles on my K6 to judge yet, but I was not expecting it to be that frugal.

With a 2006 you're more likely to see 50-55mpg.

My dear departed K6S always gave me 55 - 60mpg. This was riding briskly, using about half-throttle most of the time (weekend leisure riding, not commuting)

My use is exclusively commuting rather than riding for fun. I imagine more spirited riding would quickly get it down to 40-50mpg. Mine's a twin spark.

My K8 does an average of 63mpg. The best I've had was 70 and the worst was 58, but that was with some fettling with engine running on the Abba stand quite a bit.

Fuel ups always seem to be about 13 to 14 litres at about 140 to 150 miles.

My K4 was similar to Adam's. I'd brim the tank and the light would come on at about 140-150 miles.
I zero the tripometer every time I fill up and keep that on the display so I know when I'm likely to need fuel
