Question rectifier/regulator

hey basically the rectifier/regulator box in my sv 650sk1 has blown (litterally its fried n blown a small hole in the back of it) so im lookin a new one
my dealer has quoted me 364quid but i highly doubt im partin with more dosh for this sv lol (cost me farrr too much this year already!!!! Iv checked over ebay and there are some used on ther for about 40quidish
does anyone on here know anywhere else i can get cheap parts and also is there any specific differences in parts? i know the 99-02 range usually carry the same parts but i dont wana get a 99one n blow somethin else up instead!!!
thanks for any tips n hints!
Chris.

Good quality parts from Electrex

I'd be cautious about paying anything like £40 for an unknown used part, could be throwing money away. Either go the extra and get a new item, or use second-hand if it's very cheap.

Search on the subject and amongst the gazillion hits you'll find it recommended that certain Honda items are more reliable, but I don't know how that relates to Electrex items.

Make sure all teh contacts, connectors, fuses, earth connections etc are clean and in good condition. Corroded contacts anywhere can screw up the regulation.

you've been quoted farrr to much. The reg/rec is an easy item to replace, so buy one (suzuki spares direct do an OEM replacment for £100 i think) and fit it yourself. Pattern parts are just as good (try wemoto) and some people recommend CBR reg/rrecs

I've got one that I bought from a girl on her who thought hers had blown. Turned out to be the alternator. It will fit a later curvy. 30quid plus postage

However as that quote from the dealer is so large I'd check that everything is in order as maybe some wiring might've fried. Otherwise it's an outrageous figure.

Mine stopped working about a year ago after i left it alone for too long. Got a second hand one off ebay for about 30 quid, had no problems from it since, its a simple piece of electronice, it really shouldn't be 300 odd quid!!!

thanks to all for the links and useful info, to update the few questions i didnt get back to, my suzuki dealer in ballymena (gs motors) quoted me 364quid over the phone for the part alone, no fried wiring or batteries, i told them the part i needed and they s**t that figure out lol, much cheaper good condition options on fleabay but might consider the extra ammount from some of the websites mentioned!!!
again
Thanks guys!!!!!
