Wasnt that because his leathers got shredded in one of his first attempts? or am I thinking of a different record?

Now to really complicate things; if you were to make some small ridges across the top of your helmet they would have the effect of tripping the boundary layer and change the reynolds number of the flow, reducing pressure drag. (guess who was doing a further fluid mechanics lab wednesday )

Nope, he decided to take them off apparently.

My guess would be that modifications to his helmet would only be effective if he took his trunks off.
