Proposed changes to motorcycle licencing
Did a quick search but couldn't see anything. Has anyone heard of the law coming into force at some point this year? It's called the "Third European Driving Licence Directive". it basically makes it a huge ball ache to get a bike licence. Why do they seem to pick on us when you can get in any car you like after passing a driving test. After the numpties a saw on the M25 yesterday I think it should be the car drivers who have a harder time getting behind the wheel! We need to leave the EC for the sake of getting away from stupid rules and regs and the sheer cost of being a member!

Re: Proposed changes to motorcycle licencing
Car drivers don't have the same injuries or death statistics .
They have big metal air bagged cushioned protection we don't have.

Re: Proposed changes to motorcycle licencing
Just asked Dad - he's a copper and works in an office with Traffic officers - they've heard nowt.
That article was written in 2006 though, and a lot can change in the intervening 5 years, especially with a change of governments and all that entails. |

Re: Proposed changes to motorcycle licencing
Yeah I saw the date as well, but it's mentioned in the current supplement with Ride magazine.

Re: Proposed changes to motorcycle licencing
It's still a current issue - just seems to be a bit quiet at the moment, with the anti-tampering stuff on the European front and compulsory dayglo attracting attention at national level. Still, nearly 500 bikes turned out in Birmingham yesterday to shout about it.
I suspect it will take a lot longer than suggested to become law, however - the road safety argument is waning, if the provisional accident figures turn out to be replicated in the final figures (it would appear motorcycle fatalities are down 15% in 2010 compared to 2009). The 3rd driving licence directive has been working its way through the layers of government since at least 2005, and has to be implemented before 2013. |
