Default Cracked exhaust port flange.

Just serviced my nieces (new to her) SV650 2000 model with 5k miles on it, nice bike and genuine as well, anyway i noticed that where the exhaust exits the cylinder above the oil filter that the flange it sits in is cracked (part of the casting of the cylinder by the look of it), it looks like the exhaust is housed inside this flange and then held in place by the studs/bolts.

Is this a recognised problem with these bikes or has anyone come across it before, if so what did you do to repair it.

Cheers

Iain

Not that I'm aware of, maybe worth taking a pic and posting it up.

If the exhaust header has been allowed to corrode it's not unusual to find this. It occurs as the metal of the exhaust 'grows' a bit as it rusts. If you remove the exhaust when the flange is cracked you'll need to ensure the header and gasket line up correctly when fitting, otherwise I've not seen it cause a problem.

Cheers guys, it does not look like it will be a problem TBH, i have smeared some exhaust gum/paste into it to see what happens, i doubt anything will come of it,

Cheers again
