The direct train service from Wrecsam and Shrewsbury to London is ending Friday.

I always use it whenever I go to London, it's cheap (£50 return), convenient (no changing at Wolvo or New Street - I hate both places) and the staff are so pleasant - not like on Arriva or Virgin, where studied rudeness seems to be the norm. This is a real blow to Shroppie and Wrecsam. No subsidy available

Yeah it's a shame. I've never used it, because I do not go to that 'orrible London, but would have done. It'll have to be cattle class from Chester if I ever go now.

Yes, I just read about this today. We used the service a few times to go to the Smoke for a couple of days and it was a great service. Proper old fashioned good service. A real pity to see it stop.

This is the way lots of things will be going this year and maybe for a few years. Some of which will never be seen again me thinks!!

Shame it used to go straight through High Wycombe without stopping (thank you Chiltern Railways!) as it would have helped a lot. I have to take a crowded local service to Banbury and change to the W&S service to Shrewsbury. Agree with Ed, it's a lovely service and sensible value. Very old rolling stock for sure but nicely refurbished.

Now I've got to go via London (more expensive) or Birmingham. In both cases I've got to get from one station to another for the connection as well
