Just to clarify since words are hard. I washed the keyboard not the whole laptop.

It's the oxidisation of the components that does it, think the sugar speeds up that process (or maybe it's the acid - coke seems to be the worst). They sell a liquid that you can douse your machine in after it gets wet (make it more wet? if you dare) that covers the components in a protective layer. Apparently turning it straight off and covering it in that is your best chance. You have to have some in the house though...

Think they were on dragons den with a pouch of the stuff designed for submerging wetted phones in.

Could that be silicone spray, disperses moisture and leaves a protective layer ?!

Welcome to the frustrations of chargers being blocked by fossil cars.

Thanks for the suggestions - wine is both acidic and sugary, so doubly bad. I was going to flush it through with IPA (switch cleaner, not beer) but wanted to disconnect the battery first ... it looks like I was too late. They're like little pillow now.

Given it's an Apple, I don't have much hope for being able to repair it

One of the funniest things I've seen at a service station was about three years ago at Warwick Services on the M40. At that time it only had 3 or 4 charging stations, and one of the bays was taken up by a non plug-in Prius. The owner obviously thought the bays were reserved for ANY type of electric car ...

That might end in a Basil Fawlty moment, with me beating the car with a big branch.

'This has sparked concerns that young people, who have suffered from unemployment or wage reductions during the COVID-19 crisis, may end up paying more for state pensions of older citizens.' This is a quote about triple lock state pension and somebody saying it has got to go.
I don't remember anybody being concerned that I was paying for older citizens' pensions when I was young !
They are playing young off against the old to try and justify abandoning the triple lock , fiddling with the figures or altering the wording so they don't have to include the average wage increase part.
