Default SV400

So I'm in the US and looking to build an SV500 to race in my race orgs. lighweight class.

I'm looking for any and all REAL information that someone might have on the SV400.

i.e. cases the same as a 650? Same frame? motor mounts? etc.

The major differences are the bore and stroke...so that tells me rods, crank, piston and cylinder....anything else?

I'm well aware of the TWINS WORKS FACTORY guys building SV500's....but I want to know as much as I can before I just go buy something.

Any information or links would be helpful.

I'll assume this is a twin race series with a 500cc limit and a CB500 doesn't appeal

The SV400 has only one front disc if IIRC so rules dependent you may want to fit a 650 front end...

Afraid I don't know much about the engine but I'd be surprised if it was hugely different

Yeah...I'd be just doing an engine swap or de-stroking a 650. So I'd be using a 650 S frame and suspension.

Same frame, same motor mounts. The front end has some differences,CDI is different too, they rev higher. I imagine the carb components will be different too but can't speak for that. There's probably loads of other wee differences but I reckon from your point of view the engine interchangability's critical?

The crank's apparently the same design, but with the shaft for the rods moved inwards. Can't say that for sure though, I've never seen one. Don't know about the heads.

If I was you, I'd speak to TWF on SV Rider- I know he's built big-bore SV4s before for specific race classes.
