What's the best stand to support the bike, while removing forks
I'm going to be removing the forks so I need to get some sort of engine stand or jack. I wash thinking of putting the bike on the rear stand then tying it down somehow. Then getting a jack or something under the engine.
Has anyone done this before and what worked best for you? |

Re: What's the best stand to support the bike, while removing forks
This is what I did
Rear paddock stand and a front one to get the wheels off the ground, then put a pile of bricks underneath wit a sturdy block of wood on top of the bricks engine to support the bike, good strong bit of rope around the top yoke and then tied the bike up to the rafters in the celing of my dads garage. When I had it all secure, dropped the front paddock stand out and checked the bike was stable and not going anywhere, then dropped the front wheel out. Worked out fine, bike was nice and stable and I left it like that overnight as I was a bit slow rebuilding the front forks... HTH

I'd recommend getting an Abba stand, theyre a bit expensive but worth the money IMO.

Re: What's the best stand to support the bike, while removing forks
I put the bike on the rear paddock stand to ge tit level and then used a ratchet strap around the roof rafters to lift the front.
Not very steady and there are safer ways to do it but it works |

Re: What's the best stand to support the bike, while removing forks
I have an Abba type stand (nicknamed "Bjorn Again", because it's not the real thing). Mine has legs that poke out of the back to give me something to strap the back of the bike down to. That way I can get both wheels out at once.
It looks like this when it's got a stripped down KR-1 on it, I once left a Gixer Thou on it like this for 3 weeks : http://farm1.static.flickr.com/124/3...0c948181_b.jpg |

Re: What's the best stand to support the bike, while removing forks
I put the rear on the paddock stand and jacked the engine with a trolley jack (using block of wood to disperse the pressure. Worked fine but the bike is easily tipped so be careful not to knock it! Some pics here.
Interested to hear how people do the rear (ahem) as I'm about to fit shorter dogbones and haven't quite figured out how I'm going to do it!?! Last edited by Strobart; 28-10-07 at 06:54 PM. |

For me, an NWS stand (similar to the Abba stand) and a bottle jack
