Default No headlights 2000 sv

I had a problem recently that the wiring went so when you pulled the front brake lever the brake light didn't go on. I've got this fixed but a week later i've got a new issue.

I;ve the habit of turning the headlights off if i;m starting the bike, did this the other day, turned them back on, but i have no headlights and main beam doesn't work either. I've checked the fuses, and the bulbs and they are fine, the little light still comes on.

I've not got a multi meter until i get to my fathers but can anyone give me a clue as it what it might be/where the problem might be please?

well it decided to start working again half way around the m25 without me doing anything, it seems that there is a loose wire in the connection box (or whatever the technical term is as if you touch that the lights flicker. But the box with all the wires going in and out seems to get really really hot when the head lights are on for more than 2 min which i'm assuming isn't meant to be happening. I've tried cleaning the 2 connecting bits but it still does it.

Which part are you referring to when you say; "connection box"? Where on the bike is this part, how many and what colour are the wires leading to it?

Umm at the front of the bike on the right hand side, (there is another on the left) there is a black box with 8 wires going in and 8 wires coming out of the other bit. The one that over heats is pale creamy colour i think. I can't get into the garage at the moment to take a picture, as someone has decided to block it for me, i'll try and get a picture when i can get in.

Is this a connector block we are discussing? If yes, and there is an orange/black and a yellow/white wire in it, then examine those wire's connections in said block. A failure in either of those would cause the specific fault you have.
