Tacho not working - SV650.org

Got the bike back and running after the problem with excess charge caused by a duff regulator.

Prob now is the only thing not working is the Tacho

So questions are

Could this have been stuffed by excess charge or is it just coincidence? I would guess not as Doe has the same problem at the moment

Are there any common causes for a dead tacho?

Can I test it any way - Haynes is no help?

Where does the Tacho get its signal from?

My tach drops out every now and again.Its always been because the connection to the front coil has come adrift.. Just undoo the two bolts on the front of the tank and stand it up. Youll see the coil -left front -make sure all the wires are atttached and crimped up.

Happened to me recently. In my case it was the front coil.

Not sure if the tacho is taken out by the rear coil being disconnected, but if the front is OK, it could the rear one that's the problem.

That would make sense as while trying to find the fault after the initial problem, I disconnected & checked both coils so there is a good chance I disturbed something

i will have to check mine too cos i did change the rear coil. maybe i didn't screw it properly.

Still can't get the light and tacho to work. Any one got any experience with this issue?

OK, I've torn the bike down again

and put if back together and now know this

There is only one wire that goes via the front coil to the instruments (black with a yellow tracer) so I assume that this is the pulse signal for the tacho.

I've got continuity from the plug on the back of the instruments, to the front coil and all the way to the CDI.

So, my conclusion is that there is no reason for the tacho not to work, given that its getting a pulse.

So I'm left with a dead tacho/circuit board caused by the initial overcharge problem

Does anyone know if it is possible to fix this or is it off to E-bay I must go!!!
