Ignition advancer?
Hi folks,
I've been reading these forums recently and noticed some of you guys mention an ignition advancer. I realise this is a way of tuning a few extra horses out of your engine but what is this advancer? Where do you get one? Is it pricey and does it need dyno set up? Most importantly........ is it worth it? Hopefully you clever, clever people out there in SV land can shed some light |

JHS Racing will sell you one for about £15, you will also need a gasket & rotor puller tool from someone.
You dont need to dyno it, but if you are doing it with a air filter & exhaust upgrade then its probably best to do so.

Gives you more torque lower down the rev range, and maybe an extra 2bhp if you're lucky. Not the huge punch some might think it to be, the results are IMO quite subtle but worth having. If you combine it with the R6 throttle tube mod, and lower the gearing with a rear sprocket with an extra couple of teeth (46) then you'll notice a nice difference.

I think it's worth it. It's not really for peak opower, don't expect a lot there, what it does is brigns the power down the revs so you get a much better power and torque curve. For real world riding, it's ace. Pretty cheap too. Not quite easy to do, but not massively difficult either.

Isn't this the same as the ignition retarder mod ?
What's the difference ? |

Disabling the TRE made little difference on my bike, except it didn't chug quite so much at the bottom end of second gear - below 3k, like pulling up to junctions or whatever, not where you'd really use it anyway. Might as well do it, it's free after all!
