Default Freeing a stuck chain link?

What is the best way to free up a seized/stiff chain link without removing the chain from the bike?

It moves very very slightly so I guess you could probably say it's seized almost. I've cleaned the chain twice with chain cleaner and left the cleaner to soak in for 20 mins before washing off and lubing. It's still really stiff. Would you considering washing, attempting to soak it in paraffin?

Just noticed I put stuff in stead of stiff in the thread title.

The way i've always done it was, after a ride when the chain is worm, apply some fresh engine oil to the link(s) with a small brush i.e tooth brush. Let to soak for 20-30 mins, wipe clean and should be free.

Thanks, I'll give that a go, should have a few drips of oil left in the bottle.

or even better don't let it dry out in the first place, then it won't go stiff

I lube the chain pretty often so I wasn't expecting to find a stiff link. Think I might invest in a scottoiler next year or something similar.

that's pretty impressive, 400 miles without stopping for fuel

on the odd occasion I've had a bike without a chain oiler; I carry chain lube with me and re-lube at the pump as it takes all of a minute or two.

Cheers Mark.

Ok smart a** you need to stop for fuel. Actually this is pretty important, the bike stops working at about 150 miles if you don't. They get heavy within a few feet after they stop working!

You end up with a bike bucking and surging into Amsterdam, and you need to go looking for a new one . And a biking lesson learned. (If you have tight spots in a chain, change it before a long trip)
