...you're moving somewhere with no garage, no garden and are pretty sure it would last about 5 minutes on the street? This may be about to happen to me the week I'm due to buy a bike

I would rent a lock up, in Stafford there are random council garages blocks hidden in back alleys that you can rent for some silly amount on various estates, failing that I would beg some family or friend for some space.

have you got no drive at all ?

If its just a terraced house on the street i would just mount an anchor on your house wall and padlock it to that m8 on the kerb. if the kerbs wide enough that is.

Its a 1st floor flat with nothing but a front door onto the pavement. Even if I anchored it down someone would damage it, its in the middle of a not so nice area in Manchester. Mate has a garage but as its about 5 miles away its not an ideal solution.

Any idea where to find out about council garages?

I had this where I was living in Cardiff. The first day I locked it up, I got warned that the neighbour's bike was nicked, and that was locked up with chains. Doh!

I ended up buying two almax IV chains and chained it to a lampost. Never worried about it again
