Default Re: Best tyre fix ??

Joe, I appreciate that money's tight (been there).

It doesn't matter what speed your bike will do the tyre is Z rated, and this is what will cause discussion. Michelin are, I believe one of the few manufacturers who approve repairs of their Z rated tyres so that might help.

Someone near you will repair this tyre professionally. ANY repair that can be done without taking the tyre off the wheel is NOT supposed to be permanent, or used at high speed.

A repair will probably be about £20 from a tyre company, and the tyre's then safe to use until it's worn out.

I can't recommend putting in a temporary fix for any length of time.

Interestingly there was a feature on tyre repair kits in the last Ride mag. Some people will only repair Michelin tyres as they have kevlar belts rather than steel ones. if you drill the hole out in steel belted tyres and catch the steel it loses its structural capability, it can also rust after a puncture.

Check your tyre pressures again after repair, make sure that it is not over inflated. You may also want to check the road outside your garage for sharps. We had a pikey van removing rubbish from someones garden (with out their knowledge it turns out!) that dropped screws and nails through out the street, luckily I saw them before I used the bike and was able to sweep them up.

More road sweepers would improve this situation I feel...
