Question Ferries

Hi all,

I'm after some advice have used the tunnel with my bike before but this time using ferries. The question i have is do you need to take your own tie downs to secure your bike or are they provided? (or not needed??) I am using Norfolkline but guessing it doesnt make much dif which ferry company you use?

Many thanks

No they will provide the straps and may even do it for you (they do for me, but then I walk with a stick). but at a minimum will make sure it's secured correctly, worth keeping and eye though as they can be a little rough.

Cheers Mark.

Little tip here----when you put the tiedown straps across your seat[Ferry co normally do] put your gloves between the strap and your seat. This prevents getting abrasion marks from the straps on your seat

Also, check what they're doing, on our Moroccan trip the monkey was all ready to ratchet down my bike from a strap with the metal hook on my brand new front brake disc...

Last year coming back from Amsterdam (IJmuiden) to Newcastle with DFDS Seaways, they didn't help whatsoever and only gave a brief glance to see if bikes were secured.

But those people that were uncomfortable doing it were helped by other bikers. I've found they'll always be someone willing to help (even if everyone speaks in different languages!) if you're struggling so don't worry about it.
