Default Rider/Pillion weight ratio?

How much heavier can your pillion be then you? Needed to give a mate a lift the other day but wasn't sure whether I could manage to carry him so had to let the guy down - he weighs twice as much as me, 21 stone.
Would it be wheely heaven or just end in tears and blood?

I'm sorry what?

Provided the pillion is careful not to shift his weight around it will be fine. If you're very inexperienced at taking pillions then this won't make it easier. If he wriggles about then it will have a bigger effect than a fidgeting size 6 girl on the back. However, if the pillion is well behaved you're just going to need to be smooth and plan you braking and acceleration a good distance ahead to keep it settled.

Simply putting an extra few stone on the bike won't "kill you both" unless you ride badly, or he wriggles about or stands up on one peg when you're not expecting it.

I meant tell him that as an excuse to not have to give him a lift.

I've took a 16 stone bloke and it just ****ed me off, I told him to get off.

I agree with jambo. But still, far better to have a slim girlie on the back

Tell him to lay off the pie anyway!

Can't imagine it will be pleasant but no danger involved, just cover the back brake from the lights or you'll be cartwheeling!

tell him you'll take him but that he'll need to pay the surgery costs of removing your bike from betwixt his cheeks once you get where you're going...

I had a guy on the back who rides a motorbike and he was the worst pillion I'v ever had.

He was leaning into corners for me instead of following the bike and I went to turn right and he just sat there like a sack because he tought we are going striaght on!

Just clear things up with your passenger before they get on and all is good!

That doesn't sound too bad then, he's a fairly experienced passenger so that should make up for my lack of experience, so it's just the thought of Big Matt wearing my SV as a G string that I need to worry about now

Took an 18 stone mate for a ride - he's not fat or owt, just tall and built...

Was a nightmare with that weight on the back- standard shocks didn't help either.

Adding to the fact he shifted about every time I hit the brakes- a very unnerving journey in 1 direction- nearly lost it at one point. Got him to stop it for the journey back and was much easier. I think his height didn't aid things, as it puts the weight higher up too.

I rarely take pillions- normally only my bro, who is about 14-15 stone and a biker himself, so he's no bother...
