Throttle pick-up jerky
Hi Guys,
I am a sympathetic rider and always feed the power back in gently after closing the throttle (if you want me to do wheelies etc., you will wait a looong time). My problem is that my 2001 curvy can be very abrupt when I open the throttle. It almost feels like the throttle has too fast an action to be smooth and that the throttle butterflies are stuck shut - more than I have experienced before due to suction. I am fitting a comfort kit and expect the lack of weight on my hands to make it easier to do fine control. Do you guys think this is normal and something I just have to get used to or is it something that can be tweaked out somehow. I feel the carbs are well synchronised and the bike is not running badly, so whaddyareckon? |

Re: Throttle pick-up jerky
Hi Blapper. I've just bought a 2000 model and strangely enough I find the throttle response a little jerky too. I thought it was just me, I'm not a fast rider either. Maybe it's just a trait of the bike?
I'm sure someone with more knowledge may know more.... Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk |

Re: Throttle pick-up jerky
I sorted the problem on my curvy by oiling the throttle cables and linkages.

Are your throttle bodies balanced?

Re: Throttle pick-up jerky
My throttle opens and closes pretty smoothly but never had any trouble with it being so snatchy, sometimes when im in 2nd or 3rd and shut the throttle and let the revs go down its a bitch snatchy if i dont change gear and use the clutch to pull away again, can notice it more on cornering i think?

Re: Throttle pick-up jerky
It's a 9500 mile bike, everything I have looked at so far seems tidy and well maintained. Riding it on tiny throttle openings would tell me if the carbs were out of sync, but it seems to be nicely on two cylinders even on the tiniest throttle opening.
sl0th86: That sounds similar-ish, so I'll call that three for three... |

Re: Throttle pick-up jerky
If you are quite sure that everything that needs to be balanced is balanced I'd suggest TPS adjustment might help. Find the thread titled Default TPS Adjustment Step-by-Step Pictorial Guide and give it a go. Results can be revalatory!

Re: Throttle pick-up jerky
Its a curvy! It has carbs, not fuel injection, so suggesting TPS settings is irrelevant
