Help with a brake calliper
Hi folks. After a little help. So I decided to have anther go at changing the fluid in the rear brake on the ktm today. Tried before but the bleed nipple was very tight. Any way applied some heat and hey presto it came in done. Yey I thought until I took the bleed nipple out plus all the blood threads. Has anyone ever done a helicoils on this part and if so where can I get them. Or has anyone got another way without buying new or of flebay. Cheers my dears.

Re: Help with a brake calliper
just tap it up to the next size and get appropriate new nipple. dont need to drill just get a #2 tap and run it all the way down slowly. 1/2 turn in 1/4 turn out and repeat till 2 turns then take out and clean the threads on the tap then start 1/2-1/4, 2 turns again till you hit bottom. if you want to be super anal about it run a #3 tap all the way down as well. get proper cutting oil for ally and dont use cheep ass taps as they snap way to easy, get presto or dormer taps. you will feel the tap if its starting to bind up and if it does then wind out and clean and let cool then add more cutting oil.

Re: Help with a brake calliper
you mean an M10 thread? which is fekin huge so i doubt it.
you cant go by the size of the spanner you use.. lol. you need to know the thread size and pitch. |

Help with a brake calliper
I think it's classed as 10mm thread. It's the most common size that you see on a car.

Re: Help with a brake calliper
balls. looks like your going to have to use an insert like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STAINLESS-...-/260581701790
you might find a hydraulics shop will be cheeper. i dont like thread inserts unless they are time-sert and i especially dont like helicoil. |

Re: Help with a brake calliper
ok found some m12 http://www.biggred.co.uk/bleedscrews...Bleed%20Screws
an M12x1 will cost a fair whack so you might be better off taking the calliper and the new bleed nipple to your nearest engineering shop and asking them to do it for you (ask if they have the tap first coz if they dont they will buy one in and charge you more.. |

Re: Help with a brake calliper
if a second hand one is cheaper then yes. dont think you would see change from £60 to get an engineer to do the job.
